BOAT BUILDING STUDIO

A boat builder and a gardener, the owners proposed a unique design challenge in replacing their old garage: adding a second level which would accommodate a boat building workshop in a building well suited as a backdrop to a small urban garden. The historic context of Minneapolis’s Kenwood neighborhood and a downhill slope from the main residence allowed an opportunity to reduce the scale to cottage-like proportions which compliment the restrained vocabulary of the main house.
